Kora Units and Clubs

Units

Arab Patrol

The Arab Patrol has been an active performing Unit of the Temple since 1892. Its mission is to become proficient in the Arab Drill and Tactics and to assist the Illustrious Potentate in the work of the Temple. 

Band

The Band is one of the Kora’s oldest units, having been formed in 1929. Its mission is to provide a well-rehearsed and disciplined band for Kora Shriners furnishing music for Shrine gatherings and such other appearances as may be consistent with the nature and purpose of the Shrine subject to the approval of the Potentate.

Buccaneers

The purpose of the Kora Shrine Buccaneers is to participate in designated Kora Shrine events as well as promoting loyalty, brotherhood, and shrinedom. The Kora Shrine Buccaneers shall also promote the Kora Shrine Center through participation in public functions.

Crazy Cops

The Crazy Cops is one of the largest and more active Units at Kora Temple. We travel around the central and southern parts of Maine parading at city and town events, acting as ambassadors for the Temple and representing the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Cycle Corps

The Cycle Corps (a mini-bike unit) was formed and became an official Temple unit in 1969. Our motto is “We ride so kids can walk,” and our mission is to support Kora Shriners by participation in parades, participation in inter-temple competitions at conventions, and supporting and conducting fundraising projects for our hospital philanthropies.

Drifters

The Kora Drifters Unit is organized for the purpose of promoting Kora Temple, shrinedom, friendship, and fellowship among its members, and to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Facts and Figures

The Kora Facts and Figures​ Unit is organized for the purpose of promoting Kora Temple, shrinedom, friendship, and fellowship among its members, and to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Funsters

The Funsters are a group of Shriners who bring joy and fun to the public through various events, such as parades, meet and greet, and more, while  supporting the mission of the Kora Shrine Temple and the Shrine Philanthropies. 

 

Greeters

The Kora Shrine Greeter Unit was formed in 1983. Prior to that date, we were part of the staff, similar to the Aides, under the direction of the Potentate.

Highlanders

The Kora Highlanders are a bag pipe/drum band. In 1979 a group of Nobles envisioned putting a pipe band together. They started practicing on their own.

Karts

The Kora Karts unit is organized for the purpose of promoting Kora Shrine, shrinedom, friendship, and fellowship among its members. The Karts have been a Temple unit since 1972.

Klowns

The MOST FUN of all Kora Shrine Units! The “Klowns” of Kora Shrine Temple have all been trained in the art of clowning around. They entertain children of all ages during parades and many other events throughout the year. 

Legion of Honor

The Legion of Honor became an official unit of Kora Shrine in 1928. Its mission is to provide escort duty at Kora ceremonials and other official functions, to carry the Temple colors and assist in flag ceremonies.

Log Rollers

The Log Rollers were started in 1988 by Harold Jordan who purchased the first truck. In 1989 the Log Roller unit was accepted as Kora unit and Harold became the first Director. The Log Rollers promote Kora Shrine Temple and good fellowship

Medical Corps

This unit has been in existence since 1999. Its function is to raise monies for the Children’s Hospitals and the good of the order. This is done by performing in parades and other services as directed by the Potentate.

Mini Racers

The Kora Mini Racers​ Unit is organized for the purpose of promoting Kora Temple, shrinedom, friendship, and fellowship among its members, and to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Mopeds

The purpose of the Moped unit is to provide members opportunity to become proficient in motorized drill formation and maneuvers, to participate in designated Kora Shrine events and parades, as well promoting loyalty, brotherhood and Shrinedom through drill and parade enjoyment to the public.

Motor Corps

The Motor Corps is a unit of Kora Shriners, having been accepted in 1984. Its mission is to promote Shrinedom and Kora Shriners, to perform services for the Potentate at his request, to participate in parades and other official functions, to provide transportation for Nobles and guests of Kora as the need arises.

Provost

The Provost unit of Kora Shriners was established in 1983. The unit is responsible for the internal security of Kora Shrine Temple and the protection of the Nobility during Shriner functions.

 

Renegades

The Renegades is a motorized group sponsored by the York Shrine Club whose purpose is to promote good will towards Shrinedom.

Second Section

The Second Section has been a unit of Kora Shriners since 1891. Its function is to assist in the ritual work of the temple and to introduce novices to the Hot Sands through the Second Section of the Degree. Second Section also takes part in parades and performs other services at the direction of the Potentate.

The purpose of this organization is to promote sociability among members, to provide financial support to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and to the Shriner’s Hospital Transportation Fund of Kora Shriners.

Kora Brew Club

The purpose of Kora Brewers is to support Kora Shriners and promote the good of Shrinedom and Brotherhood in general. 

Kora Cash Calendar

The mission of the Kora Cash Calendar is to support the fundraising mission of Shriners International which is to “Provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs.

Kora DeMolay Council

Kora Kampers

This association is voluntary, family oriented, unincorporated association formed for social purposes and the promotion of good fellowship among the members of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, their wives and families. This association shall profess an allegiance to the Kora Shriners and it’s Potentate.
