John R. Knox, Past Potentate and present Recorder for Kora Shriners is from Saco, Maine and attended Saco public schools, Thornton Academy and the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, majoring in elementary education.
He is married to Rebecca (Becky) Weimer of Gorham, and they reside in Windham where they raised their three children, and now enjoy watching their seven grandchildren (ranging in age from 4 to 25) in their various activities.
John’s Masonic affiliation began with Bradford Chapter, Order of DeMolay where he served as Master Councilor. He has stayed actively involved with DeMolay, serving as Maine State Master Councilor, Executive Officer for Maine, and is currently serving as President of the DeMolay and Pine Tree Youth Foundation which provides scholarships to the youth of Maine. John is a 50 year member and Past Master of Saco Lodge, and recently received recognition from Saco Lodge for his Lifetime contributions to the fraternity. He is a Past Patron of Annette Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Saco, a member of the Portland Valley of Scottish Rite, and served as Potentate of Kora Shriners in 2011. John served 10 years on the Board of Governors for Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in Boston, and is an emeritus member of the board. He is retired from William Arthur, Inc. in Kennebunk as their Human Resources Manager.
His spare time is spent with Becky attending sports events and concerts watching their grandchildren. He is also actively involved with several community bands in the greater Portland area, serving as conductor of the Westbrook City Band, and playing trumpet with the Kora Band, the Cumberland Community Band and the Oktoberfest German Band.
