A lifelong resident of Maine, Barry Irish grew up in the town of Gorham, the son of a self-employed carpenter. While growing up Barry and a younger brother joined their father,( while not attending school), building and remodeling homes in the greater Portland area. After graduating Gorham High School, Barry attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute and graduated from the Architectural & Civil Engineering program. After a couple years Barry bought a window company from the widow of the former owner, which sold, serviced and installed windows and doors from several distributors. He named the business Windows Plus and opened a storefront in South Windham. Barry operated both businesses for over forty years.
After college, Barry joined the Gorham Fire Department as a volunteer Firefighter and then became a paid part time Police, Fire, and Rescue dispatcher. He dispatched every Saturday and Sunday night from 4PM to 12AM. Barry did this for 10 years until he met Debbie, who became his wife.
